MEET THE SPARTANS tries to be stupid and, unfortunately, succeeds tremendously at it. In fact, it was such a satirical farce (in both production and quality) that it fails to be funny throughout its — thankfully — short, 84-minute length. Directors Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg are famous for their outlandish films that mock other films; having such things as EPIC MOVIE, DATE MOVIE, and THE SCARY MOVIE franchise under their belts. If you’re no fan of any of those, then you’re going to be sorely disappointed in this one.

The specific tragedy of Meet The Spartans is that if you’re not into modern film or TV, you’ll miss almost all of the gags (from Dancing With The Stars to Gatorade commercials).

To add a further mess to it is that the film is exceptionally homophobic, going so far as to have the actors act overtly homosexual which was just completely unfunny.

Sex, mock-battles with blue-screens, more sex, and nothing approaching good dialogue makes Meet The Spartans one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. Even the ‘painted-on-six-pack-abs’ weren’t chuckle-worthy.

Lampooning everything from modern television shows, actors, actresses, films, commercialism, and even history, Meet The Spartans has absolutely no direction and no story, making it a worthless mess.
